About Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument in the world. It was built in the early 12th century by the Khmer king Suryavarman II as a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and later became a Buddhist site. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and appears on the flag of Cambodia.
Its galleries carry famous bas-reliefs of the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Sunrise over its five lotus towers is one of the most celebrated sights in Asia.
