About Muktinath Temple
Muktinath, meaning "Lord of liberation", is a sacred shrine of Lord Vishnu in the Mustang district of Nepal, below the Thorong La pass. It is counted among the 108 Divya Desams and is equally holy for Buddhists, who revere it as Chumig Gyatsa.
Pilgrims bathe under the 108 bull-faced water spouts (Muktidhara) and in the two kunds in front of the temple. The Kali Gandaki river nearby is famous for Shaligram stones.
🚆 How to Reach Muktinath Temple
Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (about 20 minutes), then take a jeep to Ranipauwa (about 1.5–2 hours) and walk up to the temple. A jeep road also runs from Pokhara via Beni and Jomsom (one or two days). Acclimatise properly because of the high altitude.
👕 Dress Code & Rules
Traditional, modest clothing. Carry warm clothes – it is cold and windy even in summer. Devotees bathe under the 108 water spouts, so bring a change of clothes.
